What is ENT (Electrical Non-Metallic Tubing) used for?
ENT, also known as Smurf Tube, is a corrugated PVC raceway used to protect and route electrical wiring in walls, ceilings, and concrete slabs. It is commonly used in residential, commercial, and light industrial buildings for power, lighting, and low-voltage wiring.
Can PENT Series ENT be directly buried in concrete?
Yes. PENT Series ENT is rated for direct concrete encasement and can also be installed above suspended ceilings, in accordance with NEC Article 362 and CSA Section 12-1500.
What certifications does PENT Series carry?
PENT Series is certified to ANSI/UL 1653 and CSA C22.2 No. 227.1. Sizes 1/2", 3/4", and 1" carry cULus certification; sizes 1-1/4" and 1-1/2" carry UL certification, under UL File No. E533399.
What sizes and packaging options are available?
PENT Series is available in nominal sizes from 1/2" to 1-1/2", offered in stick, coil, and reel packaging to match different installation and shipping requirements. See the Parameter table above for full dimensions and packaging length options.
How does ENT differ from flexible metal conduit (FMC)?
ENT is a non-metallic PVC raceway, making it lighter, corrosion-free, and suitable for concrete-encased or damp locations, while flexible metal conduit (FMC) offers greater mechanical and EMI protection. Project specifications and local electrical codes typically determine which is required.
